PMTS Calculator

Calculate time standards using MTM-1, MTM-2, MTM-UAS, MOST, and MODAPTS methods

Predetermined Motion Time Systems

PMTS are techniques used to establish time standards for manual work by analyzing the basic human motions required to perform a task and assigning predetermined time values to these motions.

PMTS Method

Select the predetermined time system you want to use:

MTM-1
MTM-2
MTM-UAS
MOST
MODAPTS

MTM-1 (Methods-Time Measurement)

MTM-1 is the most detailed MTM system, analyzing work into basic motions with time values in TMUs (Time Measurement Units, where 1 TMU = 0.00001 hour = 0.036 seconds).

Motion Description Distance/Parameter TMUs Action
0

Result

Total TMUs:

Standard Time: seconds

1 TMU = 0.036 seconds | 27.8 TMU = 1 second | 100,000 TMU = 1 hour

MTM-2 (Second Generation MTM)

MTM-2 is a simplified version of MTM-1 with fewer categories, suitable for less detailed analysis. It uses time values in TMUs.

Motion Description Distance/Parameter TMUs Action
0

Result

Total TMUs:

Standard Time: seconds

1 TMU = 0.036 seconds | 27.8 TMU = 1 second | 100,000 TMU = 1 hour

MTM-UAS (Universal Analyzing System)

MTM-UAS is a simplified MTM system for analyzing work cycles with less detail than MTM-1 but more than MTM-2.

Activity Description Distance/Parameter TMUs Action
0

Result

Total TMUs:

Standard Time: seconds

1 TMU = 0.036 seconds | 27.8 TMU = 1 second | 100,000 TMU = 1 hour

MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique)

MOST is a higher-level PMTS that analyzes work using standardized sequence models (General Move, Controlled Move, Tool Use).

Parameter Value TMUs

Result

Total TMUs:

Standard Time: seconds

1 TMU = 0.036 seconds | 27.8 TMU = 1 second | 100,000 TMU = 1 hour

MODAPTS (Modular Arrangement of Predetermined Time Standards)

MODAPTS is a simplified PMTS where 1 MOD = 0.129 seconds. Body parts are assigned MOD values based on movement.

Body Part Motion Distance/Parameter MODs Action
0

Result

Total MODs:

Standard Time: seconds

1 MOD = 0.129 seconds | 7.75 MOD = 1 second

Practical Examples

MTM-1 Example

Reach 15 cm to object in fixed location: Reach Case A, 15 cm = 10.6 TMU

Grasp object: Grasp Case 1 = 2.0 TMU

Move object 20 cm to new location: Move Case B, 20 cm = 12.9 TMU

Total = 25.5 TMU (0.92 seconds)

MTM-2 Example

Get small object in easy location: Get A = 6 TMU

Put object to approximate location: Put B = 10 TMU

Total = 16 TMU (0.58 seconds)

MODAPTS Example

Move hand 15 cm: M3 = 3 MOD (0.39 seconds)

Grasp object: G1 = 1 MOD (0.13 seconds)

Total = 4 MOD (0.52 seconds)
